Sweet Courthouse Wedding

Something I like to share every now and again is the sweeter, simpler weddings of the world. Not everyone wants to spend a downpayment’s worth of money on one day, and if that’s not your style, you’ll love today’s wedding. This courthouse wedding is precious and the couple looks so in love! At the end of the day, you don’t need much to get married… so I love that this couple took their siblings to City Hall and became husband and wife in a simple, intimate ceremony. Hope you enjoy these photos! xoxo – Jessica

What was your wedding budget?

BCBG Dress: $200

Jessica Simpson Heels: $45

Anthropologie Earrings: $40

Balloons: $35

Judge’s Officiant Fee: $60

Photography: $400

I did my own makeup (former makeup artist) and my sister (hairstylist) did my hair.

Jarrod’s suit/shoes/etc. he already owned.

Total: $780

How many guests did you have?

2 witnesses, my sister and brother-in-law

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

I asked my mom to run the party shop earlier in the day and requested that she get “a handful of heart balloons”; I think she picked the perfect ones to add a cheeky-fun aspect to the photos.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

Getting married at City Hall!

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

We wanted the most intimate and personal experience possible, and that is exactly what we got. It was perfect. All we had to do was be there on time and be in love. If you’re considering a destination or city hall wedding – do it. We didn’t have a single bit of stress. And you can always have a party later with those who want to celebrate with you!

What was your biggest splurge?

Having a photographer was the biggest cost for our tiny wedding, but it was the greatest way to capture the moments and share the day with our friends and family. We weren’t even sure if we’d have one, but I randomly met our photographer, Amy, at work a few weeks before the wedding and was like, “have you ever done city hall on a Thursday?” We clicked.

What was your favorite detail?

My ring. It was my great-grandmother Magdalene’s (whom I was named after). I found out a few weeks after the wedding that she was also married at Saint Paul City Hall, in April of 1924.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

Kissing my husband! I literally couldn’t contain my happiness which was coming out in the form of giggles for a good part of the ceremony. My sister said she’s never seen me so happy in my life. Also, it was 70° and sunny in April in MN, which is amazing.
