4th of July Mason Jar Flowers {Tutorial}

With my maternity leave coming to an end, I am trying to cram my days with crafting and cooking when the baby is sleeping. That brings us to these adorable July 4th flower arrangements. Anything I put in a mason jar looks that much cuter so when I saw all this red, white and blue ribbon at the craft store sitting next to a display of mason jars, I was sold!

As you can see below, I used 3 different arrangements from the grocery store to make these centerpieces. Here you will find my tips and tricks to turn average grocery store flowers into professional looking arrangements.

To create the arrangements, I used 3 mason jars, a variety of festive ribbon, burlap and white flowers.

Use a glue gun to secure the ribbon to the mason jars.

I added these mini-pinwheels I found at the craft store for some extra 4th of July flair.

Tips & Tricks To Make Your Flower Arrangements Look Professional

  • Clean your containers. Bacteria can kill the flowers and cause them to die quicker.
  • Talk to the florist to buy the freshest flowers available. In season flowers will be less expensive.
  • Buy flowers that are not fully open. These will last longer than fully open blooms.
  • Select a few small arrangement of flowers that are similar in color and size. I used 2 different types of white flowers and 1 green filler to create the arrangements above.
  • Denser arrangements look more professional so don’t forget the filler (green flowers above)
  • Remove all leaves and buds that will sit in the water to avoid rotting. This will also create a cleaner look for your arrangement.
  • Once the stems are cleaned, separate the flower stems and lay them out on a flat surface .
  • Select the flowers you want to use in the center of the arrangement, often the tallest stems, and begin to gather the other flowers in a circular motion around the center. As you are doing this, try to create the look of a bridesmaids bouquet that someone would carry.
  • Once you like the look of the flowers, hold the bouquet next to the vase to determine the height of the arrangement you are going to put in the vase. I like to keep the bottom flowers close to the top of the vase.
  • Cut flowers on the bias at the bottom of the stem and immediately put them in the water filled vase for maximum water absorption.
  • Change the water on a daily basis.
  • If you are making arrangements for a special occasion or event, make the arrangement the night before and store in a cool area.
