The Dress Budget

From the Bride: You do not have to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding dress. When my parents told me my dress budget was $1,000, I was concerned because shows like Say Yes To The Dress make it seem impossible to find a gown for less than $2,500. Trust me, there’s plenty out there. Lovely Bride had a beautiful selection of dresses in my budget, and I was even this close to picking a dress from J.Crew bridal. Don’t be discouraged if your dress budget isn’t massive!

Make The Music Your Own

My brother’s band mate Atticus played the keyboard during our ceremony. I walked down the aisle to “There She Goes,” by the Las, which has been one of my favorite songs since I was a kid.

Our first dance was very special- we commissioned the band Wild Ones to record a cover of The Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody).” If you can’t find the perfect song, or your favorite song is too fast or too slow, I would highly recommend asking another band to record a cover of it for you. It was an awesome experience, and the track feels like it’s really, truly, ours.

Include Your Loved Ones

We tried to incorporate as many special people as possible into the wedding. One of my oldest friends, Sara, made our cakes. My dear friend Lindsay read a gorgeous poem (“A Romance,” by Stephen Dunn) during the ceremony.
