My first Maya Road mini album~

Hi Roadies! It's me, Jody Ferlaak and I am so happy to be sharing my first mini album here with all of you. It is quite a privilege for me to be the newest member of the Maya Road Design Team. I hope you enjoy a peek at a week of my life {which includes a husband and six kiddos at home, ages 3 to 16!} as you scroll through the pages of this little mini album I created.

It is really a simple book- the pages are all cardstock, but the details are what make this album especially sweet, if you ask me. One of my favorite things to do when I craft is to layer embellishments. I love the dimension and different textures that add charm to a project. The cover includes a white transparent frame with the word 'like', a kraft ticket, some kraft people, a wood stitched arrow that I left as is, a tiny heart cut from fabric tape and the perfect way to tie this album together was some dandelion twine.

The book is based on a week of photos I snapped and shared on Face Book. Together they made this album whimsical and fun. I truly enjoyed using so many different products to embellish and bring this little project to life. I hope that you are inspired to make a little book of the people or things you love in your life right now too!

I used the fabric tape to make a flip-card and used a tiny piece as a flag with a tiny heart cut out of it. I enjoy thinking outside the box for ways to repitition with products, but giving them unique twists.

I added some sky blue acrylic paint to the back side of the butterfly on this spread. I like how it adds a subtle 'pop' and that same blue paint is used on some of the chipboard alphas throughout the album as well. Color is an easy way to make an album more cohesive, especially when I play with so many patterns of paper!

Here you spy the painted chipboard alphas. I used a pink sequin as an apostrophe since I didn't have one, and to me it is a cute detail that speaks to a girl's birthday party and adds one more fun detail!

The pink leaves of the flower, as well as the banner on the flower tag are both made from the pink paper twine chording. I unrolled it and cut the shapes free-hand. Just because something is rolled and tightly wound on a spool doesn't mean you have to keep it that way. I love to play around and see what else a product can do! Try it, you might come up with cool, new things too!

You probably noticed that I used several of the items that were layered on the cover throughout the entire mini album. The bits and pieces are what make it playful and the added textures- whether plain, painted or untwisted, are what make a book special and unique as you craft and create.

Thanks for looking through my mini book and happy scrapping to all of you, Roadies too. I hope I have inspired you to want to play with your scraps and maybe even use some of them in new ways too! Have fun crafting!
