About the Author
Anna Adams is a young author who grew up both in America and in France. She studies law in Paris besides writing her “French Girl” series and dreaming of travelling to Asia and Africa. The last of the series ” A French Diva in New York” will be released soon.
Fluttering Thoughts:
That’s sweet: This first book in Anna Adams “French Girl” series is a wonderful fairy tale like story that reminded me thoroughly of Cinderella. Well, the French girl got a family instead of her prince, but well that is just a minor detail ;-).
I thought at first that Maude’s situation in her foster family’s home was a little too fairy tale like (rather being the servant than a child taken care of) but having heard about the problem of modern slavery a lot lately made me re-think this judgement.
I love Maude, who, no matter what life throws at her, stays focused and makes the best of her situation. And she grabs the opportunities she got (teaching herself music in the library, get her foster parents let her go to New York). That is something young girls can learn from her. She is not an ideal character though. There are more than enough tears and girlish weaknesses to make her feel realistic.
As I like music a lot I enjoyed the setting in a modern day family who enjoys and encourages music and mentors Maude to become a successful singer.
That stings: I have no idea how young musicians are taken care of in the United States and I wondered a lot if the story would really happen like that. But in the end, I decided that that does not matter. It surely was not meant to be a biography, but a novel with a fairy tale like atmosphere.
And the honey of it? If you are after a heart-warming story for the weekend with a happy ending, where you can lose yourself in it, then you are the right reader for this book. I needed a little longer to read it, but it made me enjoy myself thoroughly and I would give it to my step-daughter when she is a little older. And the other three books are on my reading list.
