A Bug's Life

Sophia Webster SS14 - Supa Dupa Fly!
You may have noticed that this is a rare occasion where I actually cover more than just Orla - well, that's because I was disinterested for many seasons, thinking that nothing will ever excite me again ever. That changed swifter than I could say "Topshop show space" when I turned the corner from said show space, strolling into what looked like the best set ever. Flowers errrrrrywhurrrr, and colourful gals with bug antennae plaited hair and just wow. That, in its debatable state of coherency, was more or less my first thought. Presentations have a wholly different vibe to shows. They're more upbeat, and because one comes into such close proximity with the models, one can sometimes catch them being themselves: chatty and chilled out. At Sophia Webster (my keyboard is insisting I write "Sophie" - no no no), beds of flowers and garden swings were provided for ultimate chillment. It was super cute how you'd catch the girls unawares, then as soon as they saw you taking a photo they'd do something really fun, dance about a bit or grin. It was like that Alice in Wonderland chapter where the playing cards are made to paint the roses, but only this time it wasn't just one colour, it was like someone was playing paintball in the park and was supa dupa high and tripping on lyfe. The speech bubble clutch bags were spot on - I can already picture several dozen real-life scenarios where they'd come in useful. No more dangerously close and unattractive men on nights out - shoving "you look like NO" in their faces is the cure, then flipping it over and pointing at yourself cause, you know, "I look like YES." Or simply "Buzzin". You get the picture. What appealed to me most is the ballshiness. The Sophia girl can say/wear what she wants when she wants, because she does it with just the right amount of irony and sass.
