There's a plethora of travel websites out in the gigantic web that is the internet. But which ones are the most helpful, or provide the coolest insider info? Branch out from the standards like Tripadvisor (yawn), and you will find gems like these that will help you to create the ultimate trip!

Rome2Rio is pure genius - I have used this website extensively in planning the majority of my trips. It provides a list of transport options from point A to point B, along with direct booking links to most sites. It's a god-send if you find yourself a little off the beaten track.
Here's where my secret food addiction is exposed. I'm a massive foodie, so when I travel I like to experience as many different foods, restaurants, and cafes as I can possibly fit in. Foodspotting lets you find and share amazing dishes from all over the world. It shows each location on a map, which is super handy if you're in an unfamiliar city.
This website I found more interesting than helpful, but it's always nice to know what you're in for when you get on a flight. Looking at the first class meals increases my envy ten-fold!
EatWith allows you to 'book a seat' at the table of a dinner party hosted by either a well-practiced cook or a chef. It combines great food with meeting new people, and offers to opportunity to step into a local's home. (Every host is subject to stringent testing!)
If you're a foodie heading to the US then this is the website for you. Eater provides food recommendations, reviews, and map locations in 24 US cities (plus Montreal!). It also breaks it down further into a comprehensive list of neighbourhoods in each city.
Meetup is a great website for both travelling an when you're home. It allows you to search and join meetup events hosted in your current location. So if you're an art & wine lover travelling solo in Sydney, join the Art & Wine lovers meetup and getting socialising with some new people!
