TEENAGE WASTELAND

"The initial idea for these photos was "grunge" and I was inspired by this abandoned area by the motorway where an old factory used to stand. Now, it is pretty much a wasteland full of old bricks, broken walls, graffiti and weeds. Amongst the hopelessness, beauty can be found- such as the poppy featured in some of the photos. This can have metaphorical connotations for many things: a ray of hope in a barren place; a silver lining; that there is always one flower that can survive in the wilderness. Whatever you want to infer from this idea... It's mainly there to make the photo more interesting. In all of the photos I have lowered the saturation to create a sense of despair and have tried to make them have a sort of unity so that they string together." - Rachel (click here for her Tumblr)
Yesterday morning, I took a trip to an abandoned piece of barren land with my friend Rachel (and her dad, to keep a watch out for us as we didn't feel safe going alone) for a shoot. Combined with her love for photography and my love for dressing up, we had been excitedly planning this for a little while now so it was great to finally get out there and do it! The morning was spent with me climbing over bricks and bramble whilst Rachel tried several different angles (which resulted in her lying on the floor on one particular occasion) to get the right shot. It was so much fun and we both agree that we would love to do something similar again in the future.

Rachel has taken these brilliant photographs as well as editing them to suit the theme, so go say hello and see her various other things on Tumblr.

This experience is totally different to something I've ever done before so I would appreciate your thoughts. Comment down below what you think!
