Orange Rolls Recipe

One of my favorite treats in the wintertime is Orange Rolls. In this version I made them into a knot shape. I usually use Rhode's rolls to make them, but this year I decided to try making them all the way from scratch. I used the same dough recipe as my Garlic Knots, but of course used an orange topping instead of garlic. They turned out perfect! The knots are rolled in butter and then in a sugar/orange rind mixture before baking. While they are still warm I drizzled an orange glaze over the top.

These orange knots are simply scrumptious!

Orange Knot Recipe

Dough:
1 1/2 c. warm water
1 T. honey
2 1/4 t. yeast
2 T. olive oil
3 1/2 - 4 1/2 c. bread flour
1 t. sea salt

Topping:
1/4 c. butter, melted
1 c. sugar
zest of one orange

Glaze:
1 c. powdered sugar
1 T. butter melted
juice of one orange
1/2 t. vanilla

Begin by making the dough. Combine water, honey and yeast, let sit 5 min to proof. Combine remaining dough ingredients with yeast mixture. Knead 5 minutes. Let rise until double {about an hour}. Punch down dough and divide into 16 pieces. Roll each piece into a snake and then form a knot.

Combine sugar and orange zest in a small bowl. Melt the butter in another bowl. Dip each knot into the melted butter, then dip in the orange sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.

While rolls are baking, mix together glaze ingredients. Drizzle glaze over orange knots while still warm.

Enjoy!
