i dubbed Suzanne Adair, the author of this book, the "Mistress of American Revolution Historical Fiction." so far, i have read three of her books and i love her stories and all of her characters especially her criminal investigator Lieutenant Michael Stoddard and his able assistant Nick Spry.
"For a quarter minute, Michael stared at a parlor doorway empty of women but resonating with their anger and loss. "Shit," he muttered, and sought first the brandy decanter, then the fireplace, the only area in the house where he could expect to find warmth. An elopement. Almost as traumatic to a family as a suicide. Damned, fouled-up families. Blockheaded children and parents."
