Elevation Polish: A Journey Told Through Music Collection (And a Yeti!) - Swatches and Review

Press Sample Elevation Polish Team Member
Good morning and happy hump day! I am late in getting this post up, but today is the Elevation Polish launch for this collection so at least they will be fresh in your mind!

Before I get to the swatches I have some news to share with all of you that I am very happy about. If you follow Elevation Polish on Facebook you probably saw the announcement already but, in case you haven't heard, I am now a member of Team Elevation. I will be sharing posts and answering questions on social media (Facebook and Instagram) to give Lulu more time to work on creating lovely polishes for all of us. This will not affect my Elevation reviews. I have been reviewing for Elevation since November of 2013 and nothing will change regarding that. If a polish has tricky application or any issues with formula, I will still tell you that. To read more about this you can visit my disclosure page. The disclosure buttons you see in the top right corner of my blog post will appear in all Elevation Polish reviews for full transparency. With all of that out of the way, let's get to this month's collection!

Post continued after the jump!

This collection was inspired by Lulu's love of music. I will be listing the songs that inspired each polish but you can visit Lulu's blog post to learn more! This is going to be a fairly lengthy post so I will try to keep the chatter to a minimum.
Most photos are in artificial lighting but I did manage to get some in the shade for some of them. Please see captions for lighting source. I also recently suffered two bad breaks in a row (on the same nail!) so my nails are pretty short. I hated to start off 2015 with super nubs, but there wasn't much else to do!
-----------------------------------------
Just Like Night Time is inspired by Life Line by Harry Nilsson. It is a medium to deep blue linear holo. The formula was creamy and smooth and it is almost a one-coater. The holo is pretty strong, as you can see from the pics. There are also blue micro-flakes that can be seen in the shade but my camera wouldn't pick them up. I used 2 coats and no top coat for the pics.

Walk a LIttle Farther is inspired by The World at Large by Modest Mouse. This is a soft blue with blue shimmer. I had a hard time capturing the shimmer with my camera but it is easy to see in person. It is a really pretty shade that will be great year-round. The formula on this one was a little on the thicker side, but not problematic. I recommend using 3 thin coats rather than 2 regular coats if you find you are having issues. I used 2 coats and one coat of top coat for the photos.

Definition: The Vivid Unknown is inspired by two songs, Definition and The Vivid Unknown, both by Phillip Glass and Yo-Yo Ma. This shade is so gorgeous and so unique! I have a lot of cremes but I don't have any that look like this and, unfortunately, my photos don't show it 100% accurately. This one is a navy blue with a hint of teal, and is a bit on the dusty side. My photos do not capture the dusty aspect for some reason, and it is just slightly more teal in person. The formula was the perfect Elevation creme formula that we have all come to love. I used 2 coats and no top coat for the photos. It is that shiny on its own!

Storm in the Morning Light is inspired by Roads by Portishead. This color is hard to describe and I think it will vary depending on your skin tone, but I do think it will look good on most skin tones. It is a blue-toned slate grey that can appear more blue or more grey depending on skin tone, lighting, etc. It also has a fabulous formula and I used two coats and no top coat for the photos.

The Sea Was Red is inspired by Going to California by Led Zeppelin. This was brought back by popular demand. Red Sea was a former SBP. This one is slightly different from the original. I am not lucky enough the original, but you can see a comparison over at Ida Nails It. This is one of my favorites from the collection and I have been wearing it the last two days. The way it shifts from gold to copper to red/orange and the super intense holo make this one a must-have in my opinion. The formula was creamy and smooth. I used 2 coats and no top coat for the photos (which is also how I have been wearing it the last two days, and I have no chips and very little tip wear).

Quarter Past Midnight is inspired by Midnight in a Perfect World by DJ Shadow. This one is sure to be a favorite with multi-chrome lovers! I'm not a huge fan of multi-chromes but this one knocked my socks off! It shifts from blue to teal to purple to a red-purple to red and even a gold/amber color that I wasn't able to capture. I think what really got me about this one though is the depth it seems to have. Almost like a brooding quality. Brooding multi-chrome - yeah, that's it! The formula on this one was easy to work with but it was a bit thinner than the others. I used three thin coats but I think it could be opaque in two coats if you have a heavier hand, I tend to use thinner coats than most people. It's also super shiny, no top coat for the pics. I saved this one for last (except Yeti) because I have more pics of it than the others. I have such a hard time narrowing down pics of multi-chromes! I did make some into collages to minimize the number of pics.

That is all for the regular collection polishes. Now for the Yeti!

Yeti Hugs... Feel So Close is a limited edition polish and will only be available for the month of January. This one is inspired by Feel So Close by Calvin Harris. It is a grey-toned white with pink, blue and violet micro-flakes. The shimmer in this one sometimes makes it appear as a light blue shade as well. It's a cozy polish and makes me want to really give Yeti a hug! The formula was easy to work with. I used two coats and one coat of top coat for the photos. I took a ton of pics of this one in all different lighting and I couldn't pick up the shimmers very well. It's so much prettier in person.

There you have it! What are your favorites? I love this whole collection, which is odd since I'm not a huge blue lover. My favorites are The Sea Was Red, Storm in the Morning Light, Definition: The Vivid Unknown and Quarter Past Midnight. Hey, I never claimed to be good at narrowing my favorites down! (Why do you think I couldn't manage a favorite polish post for 2014?! LOL)

If you've made it all the way to the end of this post, thank you! To celebrate me joining Team Elevation, Lulu has graciously offered to do a giveaway for the entire A Journey Told Through Music Collection (and Yeti)! I wanted to do a "quiet giveaway," meaning it is for all of you who took the time to go to and read my blog post. I will not be advertising this giveaway, I want to show some love to the people who read my posts! So, enter at the Rafflecopter form below for your chance to win all of the polishes I've shown you today! Giveaway is open internationally, good luck!
