The Drugstore Hair Texturizer You Won’t Be Able to Live Without

As someone who has always had flat, limp locks, I’ve become obsessed with hair texturizer. Anything I can put in there, be it dry shampoo, hairspray, salt spray, etc. that will help give it some body and grip for styling, I will. Don’t get me wrong—I am happy with my super-straight hair—but my slippery, silky strands refuse to be manipulated unless they are coated with some sort of texturizer.

As I mentioned—I’ve tried a lot of them. These volume-boosting, backcomb-effect sprays have become my best friend for “dirty-ing” up my clean hair. There’s many on the market now, including Redken Quick Tease, Big Sexy Hair What A Tease and Garnier De-Constructed Texture Tease—all of which I’ve tried and loved. But L’Oreal is introducing the Studio Line #TXT Volume Supersizing Spray ($8) this Spring, and I think it’s going to be a new favourite for many.

Why is that? First of all—it’s easy to use and hard to overdo. The one issue I had with many “backcombing” sprays was that they were too powerful. A quick spritz was more than enough, and a heavy finger on the nozzle could ruin your hairstyle in a snap. This formula does take more spray to get an equal effect, but I think that is a good thing for many.

Second, it smells fantastic. A lot of styling sprays (especially from salon brands—what’s up with that?) have an off-putting scent, but this fresh shampoo-like scent makes my hair smell great without being overpowering (aka I’m not choking in my bathroom after I’ve applied it).

Lastly, it’s brushable. If things aren’t working out quite right for you—brush it out. It was always bad news if I made a mistake with the other, more powerful formulas. This one is very forgiving! In fact, I like to spray it through my entire head of hair (concentrating on the roots, but I’ll add some to the mid-shaft and ends for body) and then brush it out. It just gives it some texture, grip and keeps silky strands from going rogue.

This spray makes the difference between a chic, un-done top knot and a sleek ballerina bun. It’s great for adding volume for updo’s, grip for silky strands and texture for modern, messy looks.

The product is set to hit drugstores this month and retails for around $8—helpful for keeping your wallet as full as your hair.
