Face Value: The Oscars 2015

There are certain Oscar night prerequisites: Gorgeous body-hugging gowns, sleek and sophisticated hair styles, and perfectly smoked eyes… and this Oscars did not disappoint. While glam and good behavior are always showcased at the Academy Awards (hey, this isn’t The Grammys!), it’s the red carpet that had us salivating at flawless complexions and impossibly shiny tresses. Here, our favorite faces of the Oscars 2015.

(*follow with the slideshow above, in alphabetical order)

Dakota Johnson – Arguably the hottest actress of the moment, Dakota definitely held her own. The pony is very reminiscent of 50 Shades Of Grey character Anastasia Steele, and I would’ve preferred hair down and loose, but I’m willing to overlook. The red lip, on the other hand, was all sorts of sexiness. It’s difficult to wear a red dress and matching lip, but Dakota pulled it off wonderfully, partially due to the subtle eye and face makeup.

Emma Stone – An orange-red lip and red hair? YES! Emma proves it’s a no-brainer showstopper. And paired with the lime green dress, her face truly pops. I’d be remiss not to note the fabulous Old Hollywood glam-inspired hair; half updo, half finger-wave curls, all gorgeousness.

Jennifer Lopez – Umm, does she ever disappoint? No. A ponytail to the Academy Awards? Hell, yeah! And that makeup… WOW. A baby pink, glossy lip that plays off of the nude dress. Eyes are like a watercolor painting with the light rose smokey eye that extends to the brow bone and smudges along the lower lash line. Skin is, as usual, golden and glowing (would you expect anything else?).

Jessica Chastain – Another subtle makeup look with simple hair, but Jessica looks truly glamorous. And I’m so into this fetching chestnut brown feline eye which, according to her makeup artist Kristofer Buckle, was designed with shadow “to create a softer look than liquid liner.” May be soft, but still makes a sexy statement.

Julianne Moore – While this updo feels a bit stiff for my liking, I have to give props where props are due: She’s a classic beauty, so stiff updos are still rather stunning on Julianne. Her absolutely gorgeous Chanel white sequined gown plays off of the subtle berry-lined eyes and matching berry lip combo quite impressively.

Lupito Nyong’o – This girl can do no wrong – with her ensembles (a dress made entirely of pearls… OH MY!) and her makeup choices. Loving the iridescent white-lined eyes paired with a metallic silver lid, highlighted cheeks, and shimmering brick-hued lips. Lest us not forget her ethereal glow and that unfairly gorgeous complexion.

Margot Robbie – Bombshell blonde and loving the choppy, slightly undone, sexy bob and gorgeous orange-red lip, definitely a departure from classic Oscars red carpet, and a refreshing one at that. To get this exact lip color, use Hourglass Panoramic Long Wear Lip Pencil in Raven ($28) and Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Raven ($28), which was painted on Margot’s pout.

Naomi Watts – Following in the Margot Robbie vibe, Naomi’s lob is a bit undone, super sexy, and very modern. The edgy, metallic dress pairs wonderfully with that deep, stunning berry lip. As always, a glowing complexion completes this near-perfect look.

Reese Witherspoon – Sure, her hair is blown, parted in the center, and her makeup is simple – a subtle, smokey eye and barely-there nude lip – but it feels fresh, young, and yet still so stunning. So bravo to Reese for proving that you don’t have to paint your face with loads of pigments to look like a true star.

Rosamund Pike – Her pale skin pairs perfectly with the rosy-mauve lip and matching eye shades. Gorgeous brows frame her face, while the updo keeps the look in line with classic, Old Hollywood glam. In fact, Rosamund’s makeup artist, Melanie Inglessis, says that she drew inspiration from “iconic Grace Kelly.” That’s a tall order, but Rosamund most certainly succeeds.
