Energy Efficient DIY Ideas

Creating a sustainable home doesn’t need to cost the earth. The environment may need looking after, but it luckily pays you back with plenty of savings.

I’ve been looking at ways to improve my home by keeping in heat to save on bills.

Door draft excluders

Door draft excluders are a great idea for keeping heat in. Whether you make your own or buy a cute design – I love this Cross Print DIY. You can easily match one to your current colour scheme or décor. I’d love to make a simple Polka Dot one.

DIY Rug

If you have any wooden or laminate flooring throughout your home, adding a rug can instantly not only warm up your feet, but insulate the floor. I love both of these Moroccan Rugs.

DIY Roller Blind

A massive 50% of heat is lost from your home through the windows. Adding blinds can instantly help keep the heat in. I love this DIY Roller Blind. I’m already thinking of picking up some fabric and trying it out for myself.

As, so much energy is wasted through the windows, I love the concept of Duette®, creating stylish blinds to keep the heat in. They’re billed as the original energy saving blind, as they prevent heat escape by up to 46% and in turn lower heating bills.
As well as saving you on your heating bills, their blinds reduce up to 45% noise and as much as 99% of the sun’s glare.

We’ve just decided that we want to move house soon, so while I’m budgeting to what we can afford. I love the idea of installing these to decrease my energy bills.
Anyone else been thinkign of ways of cutting their energy bills? It’s definitely something I’ve overlooked in the past. But, for everything I save – I’ve promised myself I can purchase something I wouldn’t normally guilt free!
