Jordana Modern Mattes Lipstick Review

Disclaimer: Sample. See bottom.

Matte lips are IN right now, and Jordana Cosmetics has provided us with an economical way to get on board with the trend in a bunch of different hues!

The brand has introduced Modern Matte Lipstick, with high pigment and long wear.

Modern Matte is available in 18 shades, is talc and paraben free, made in the USA, and promises to deliver a matte look without feathering or drying your lips.

Does the brand deliver on the no feather/no drying promise?!

Check out some swatches first!

From left to right: Matte Bare, Matte Blush, Matte Frappuccino, Matte tease, Matte Classy and Matte Adorable.

From left to right: Matte Popular, Matte It Girl, Matte Dare, Matte Pretty, Matte Caliente and Matte Style.

Not shown is Matte Whisper, Matte Innocent, Matte Goddess, Matte Divine, Matte Gorgeous and Matte Ambition. I’m going to hunt these down and when I do I’ll share my looks on Instagram!

Next up! Individual lip swatches!

Matte Bare:

Matte Bare is described as a deep pink nude – pretty spot on for me.

Matte Blush:

Matte Blush is described as nude. This pulls slightly light pink-hinted neutral on me.

Matte Frappuccino:

Matte Frappuccino is described as a rich brown nude – true for me!

Matte Tease:

Matte Tease is described as a rosy pink; rings true.

Matte Classy:

Matte Classy is described as a mauve. True story – but definitely pulled a dusty purple on me, too.

Matte Adorable:

Matte Adorable is described as a bubblegum pink – that’s how I would describe it in the tube and on my lips.

Matte Popular:

Matte Popular is described as a bright pink; again, this is how it pulls on me.

Matte It Girl:

Matte It Girl is described as a fuchsia. Spot on.

Matte Dare:

Matte Dare is described as a deep berry. “Daring” choice for me but love the berry hue.

Matte Pretty:

Matte Pretty is described as terracotta, it’s definitely a peached-up nude that pulls a little pink on me.

Matte Caliente:

Matte Caliente is described as a hot red. Fire engine! With a little bit of orange fire hint to it. I don’t have a face shot of this because the rest of my makeup the day I wore this was horrible!

Matte Style:

Matte Style is described as a true red. I love it.

I was impressed that none of these lipsticks feathered on me, and I am prone to feather with some lipsticks and glosses. It was nice to not have to worry about wearing my go-to clear lip liner before applying these lipsticks.

Mostly the Modern Mattes just required touch-up after lunch. With some, like Matte Caliente, for example, I used my eye makeup remover to take it off my lips gently, it was so long-wearing!

Although they didn’t dry my lips out horribly, wearing matte lipstick in winter when my lips are dry always leaves me a little dry. When using these lipsticks, sometimes I dotted a lip balm on my lips BEFORE I applied the lipstick. I put a sparing amount on, so as not to change the effect of the matte. It helped a lot. I also used a gentle lip scrub every other day to help keep my lips flake-free.

Matte Classy was the only one I could remember being a little dry to apply, but it wasn’t a turn-off from the lipstick.

These lipsticks retail for $2.49, and all 12 I share here are available at Walgreens and on Jordana’s website here. In addition, the other six that I don’t have (yet!) are available through the website.

For anyone looking for a go-to staple matte lipstick, for anyone looking to try a bold matte color, for anyone who loves lipstick – I highly recommend picking these up! The price along is a great reason, but the color pay-off and wear is part of the total package!

Have you tried these lipsticks?! What are your thoughts?! If you haven’t – will you look for them?! I’d love to hear what you think!
