On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl's body isn’t just unknown, it's anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.

Why I Read This
Quite simply, I knew I needed to read The Summer I Became A Nerd because my boyfriend introduced me to the world of comics once we started dating. Wednesday was new comic book day and I looked forward to going to our local comic shop together. I discovered Adventure Time, Bone, Fables, and Damsels thanks to him. We're currently long-distance but I hope to revive our Wednesday tradition once we're back to living in the same city.
Thoughts
I absolutely loved The Summer I Became A Nerd! I instantly developed a huge crush on Logan because he reminded me so much of my boyfriend. Maddie was such a girly girl in the beginning but it was wonderful to see her become more comfortable in her own skin once she met Logan. I liked everything about this book from the characters to the way comics and role-playing were portrayed. I've always wanted to participate in something like D & D and really hope I get to someday. The book made it sound like so much fun. Logan was just the perfect guy and he didn't need like a tragic past or tattoos to make him attractive (not that they're a bad thing either). It was refreshing to read a sweet, cute, romance without a ton of drama.
Future Plans
As of right now Leah Rae Miller doesn't seem to have any other books and I can't tell if she has more in the works. However, since I liked The Summer I Became A Nerd so much I have been checking out other books by Entangled Press and downloaded a few during the Amazon sale a few weeks ago. I am very excited to read them soon. You can bet that I will be reading the next book Miller publishes. Her writing reminded me of Leila Sales who you all know I am a huge fan of.
