SUMMER READS

As the official start of summer approaches, it is time to put together our summer reading list. Because summer vacation is the ideal chance to delve deep into great books, isn't it?

Here are a few of my picks, of course with matching outfit. Because we're not going to pretend we don't love giving our book characters a fabulous style!

Mrs. Dalloway - Virginia Woolf
The novel details a day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a fictional high-society woman in post-World War I England. There is no doubt that Mrs. Dalloway has become one of my favorite characters.

Woolfs writing is impressive here and her writing is a constant source of inspiration to me.

With themes like existential issues, homosexuality, feminism and mental illness, I sometimes wonder how much we can find of Woolfs herself in the book.

Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
Everybody has heard of this novel thanks for its controversial subject, but have you read it?
Middle-aged literature professor Humbert Humbert is obsessed with the 12 year old Dolores Haze, with whom he becomes sexually involved after he becomes her stepfather. His nickname for Dolores is Lolita.
I'm glad the story has outgrown its scandal atmosphere and is finally appreciated for its excellent writing style.

Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
We all watched the movie, now it's time to dream away with Mr. Darcy in the sun.
The novel follows Elizabeth Bennet, an attractive and witty woman with the tendency to judge on first impression and perhaps a little selective of the evidence upon which she bases her judgments. Mr. Darcy is handsome, tall and intelligent, but rather antisocial what is seen by many as an excessive pride.
Throughout the progression of the plot, Elizabeth and Darcy are forced to be in each other's company, causing each character to see the other in a different light. How could that end, ha?
We all love a good love story, this one is first class. Read it.

The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Thanks to the huge success of the movie (and Leo), this one can not be missing in this list.
Jay Gatsby is deeply in love with the married Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby's extravagant lifestyle and wild parties are an attempt to impress Daisy in the hopes that she will one day appear at his doorstep.
The Great Gatsby has come to be seen as a representation of the Jazz Age. The book also spawned a splendid collection of love quotes.
What's on your summer reading list? Please don't say Fifty Shades of Grey...
