Cluster Headaches are the Devil
About two months ago I was diagnosed with cluster headaches. The pain was horrible, it woke me up every night and hit me during the day too. Since I am my own patient advocate I did online researched and joined a cluster headache support group.
The way the group members described the pain brought me to tears. Some people felt like killing themselves. They said it was the worst pain ever. It is agony.
That made me think: when my doctor asked me about my pain level, 1 – 10. I said 7. Ten to me is labor pain. But, women with cluster headaches say that this type of pain is worse than labor. Can you imagine?
After about 3 weeks of no change in my daily headaches, I went to a neurologist who said I have chronic migraines instead of clusters. With that news, I truly realized how excruciating cluster headaches must be. With a high tolerance for pain, these migraines were knocking me out.
These type of headaches are rare. But I got to learn in a pretty direct way the hardship these people are going through so I felt the need to let you know about clusters.
There is no cure. Some types of relief are available, but from what I learned from the Cluster Headache Support Group these don’t take all of the pain away. It’s a trial and error situation to find the best treatment.
People with this type of condition go through so much. It affects their entire life. Even if the headaches last for a while and then stop, the fear of them coming back is always there.
Please, take the time to learn about cluster headaches. Read the descriptions from those that suffer from them of their loved ones. Share this information with others.
