5 Ways to Have a Luxurious Wedding on a Budget

So, you got engaged over the holidays and can’t wait to start organizing your fairytale wedding. All your life, you’ve dreamt of having a lavish and luxurious celebration that would rival a royal or celebrity wedding. But now that the time is finally here, you’re aware that your budget won’t allow it.

If this sounds like you, don’t fret. Just because your budget is small, doesn’t mean you can’t have a wedding that FEELS lavish and sophisticated. All you need is a little bit of creativity and careful planning.

If you want to learn how to throw a luxury wedding on a budget, read our five tips below:

1. Choose a Venue That Is Lavish Looking

Instead of opting for a simple venue that will need lots of expensive flowers and decorations to get the look you are after, opt for a more stylish venue.

Although it may cost you a little bit more to rent than a plain venue, in the long run, renting out a venue with its own unique features, will save you money.

Plus, by renting out an attractive venue, you will have a ready-made backdrop for creating timeless wedding photos.

2. Use Lights to Add Sophistication to Your Venue

Nothing gets rid of the feeling of luxury more than harsh, overhead lighting. So, make sure to opt for a venue with a dimmer switch or room to place table lamps, lanterns or candles.

To add a sophisticated hue to the venue, invest in low-cost chandeliers and hang them around the room. It is amazing how a few classy focal points, like chandeliers, can create the illusion of luxury.

3. Focus on Presentation

You most likely won’t be able to hire a Michelin starred caterer, but you can easily make your guest think you did by having good communication with the caterer you can afford.

Explain that you would like them to serve modest portions of food to your guests, but that they should do so in unique and luxurious looking ways.

By getting your caterer to focus on the presentation of food, you can give your guests the illusion that they are eating a Michelin starred meal. You could also have an afternoon wedding reception instead. That way you can just hire a caterer for hors d’oeuvres and dessert — that’s way cheaper than serving full meals.

4. Get Creative

Instead of buying things like the wedding favors and decorations, get your bridesmaids together and get making. There are so many different things you can make yourself for half the price that you would pay to have them made for you.

Just because you are making your decorations yourself, doesn’t mean you can’t create a luxurious looking wedding venue. Opt for lavish colors like golds and creams, as well as royal colors like maroon and dark purple.

While you can make your decorations and favours yourself, you want your wedding invites to be perfect. So, it is a good idea to spend a little bit of money on hiring a professional company to create them for you. After all, the invitations will give your guests their first glimpse into what to expect from your wedding.

5. Experiment with the Layout

Instead of opting for traditional round tables at your reception, think about ways you can mix it up a bit and bring a luxurious feel to your seating arrangements.

One way to create a luxurious looking area is to mix and match square and circular tables. Opt for unique looking tables — you can save money on table cloths by choosing real wooden tables. The older and more unusual the tables, the better.

In the centre of each table place a different vase — all vases must be clear and have the same ribbon tied around them. You can get these vases at thrift stores, dollar stores, and discount stores like Marshalls and T.J. Maxx. Fill each vase with a posse of the flowers of your choice. You could even spray paint large Mason Jars gold. How’s that for DIY?
