Beauty Insiders Discuss Trends Backstage at Ready to Fish

The “I woke up this fabulous” look is now in, and Amsterdam’s Ready to Fish was no exception to the rule. Ilja Visser is the beauty and brains behind Dutch fashion house, Ready to Fish, which was launched in 2013. The main goal of this ready-to-wear line is to offer beautiful fashion that is wearable to all occasions.

According to Ilja Visser:

An outfit needs a comfortable fit, so you can ride your bike while wearing it.

The F/W 2015 collection from Ready to Fish debuted at New York Fashion Week this past February, where stunning models graced the runway in structured cuts and designs. The beauty looks were also memorable.

Before the show, team Broke & Chic had the opportunity to discuss all things beauty with industry insiders backstage. Below you’ll learn the beauty trends that will be taking over 2015, and how to incorporate them into your daily routine:

Makeup

Going for a statement look can be amazing, but it can also go very wrong. Well, worry no more because those elaborated looks are so last season. Andrew Toma, a makeup artist who has worked with NARS and MAC, loved the “sheer washed” look that took over the Ready to Fish runway show.

“I like that we are going with a more natural, out of the shower look… I’ve seen it all throughout Fashion Week” said Andrew as he touched up some lips with a pale rose color mixed with foundation.

He explained that this look is a “more sculpted, but softer look” compared to what we have seen the last couple of years. He said he contoured with bronzer, used just foundation on the eyes – sealed with the shimmery Nico by NARS – and lots of mascara.

Hair

Low ponytails aren’t only for the gym anymore; they can now be elegant if done correctly. A tight, sleek and structured low pony that leaves your face as the center of attention is the way to go. The look has a natural finish that can be masculine and tough. But don’t let that turn you off from the trendy hairdo.

Celebrity hairstylist, David Cruz, was the master mind that created the hair look for Ready to Fish’s runway show. He took the time to give all the Broke & Chic girl’s out there some advice on how to get the runway look at home:

Start by blow drying your hair with Redken’s Smooth Look Anti-Frizz Cream. If your hair is still wavy, take a flat iron to it. Otherwise, spray you hair with the Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist for that sleek shine the models’ have.

From there, do a side part (or middle if that’s what floats your boat) and create a low pony. It doesn’t have to be perfect, that tousled detail in the crown will give you that “I woke up like this” look. Finish it off by using Redken’s Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray, which also adds shine.

Your goal is to have a sleek pony, not sleek all over. If you are unsure about the most stylish length for your hair, David said to get a “medium to long (haircut) to give yourself the opportunity to try more looks.”

Nails

Take the nude and natural trend to your nails. New York based nail artist, Patricia Yankee, chose to custom mix two nude shades from her nail polish collection to match every single model’s skin tone. Try to re-create the natural mix yourself with a white base and your favorite nude color.
