Real Baby Shower: Shabby Chic Books

Talk about attention to detail... W.O.W. I don't think Jessica of Design House of Moira missed a thing when designing this exceptional baby shower. I love, love, love all of the different chandeliers that were made out of book pages and crystals as well as the table runner and personalized food and drink labels. SOOO creative! From Jessica… Expecting mama Gaea is a creative woman working in the graphic design industry. It was her passion for design and her playful spirit that inspired this darling book themed baby shower we created for her. We loved the whimsical way the pages of books have been used to create such beautiful, sculptural decor all throughout the space, including tree garlands and a stunning table runner.

For the design, we started with the invitation design. I knew I wanted to include illustrations and artwork, as well as hand lettering. I also knew I wanted to think of an interesting method of shipping. So I ordered an antique set of children’s classics from eBay (the same set my mom has as a little girl) and I tucked the invitation set into the book, wrapped it in brown paper and into the post they went. The suites themselves included the invitation, reply card, a bookplate and a request to have the guests bring their favorite book to start baby Claire’s library. I also included a bookmark so people knew to open the book when they got it in the mail.

The shower itself included shades of pinks, corals and oranges. I rummaged the throw away books from our local thrift store and disassembled them to create chandeliers, tables-capes, sculptures, table runners and centerpieces. All the food and beverage was also book themed, including Jack and the Beanstalk tea sandwiches, Neverland Swords (caprese salad on mini skewers), Humpty Dumpty deviled eggs, 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea shrimp, and so on.

Rather than shower games, I gave this creative group the task of creating onesies for little Claire. I prepped the project with fat quarters in matching colors, and ironed on the first side of iron-on backing. Guests then cut out their shapes, ironed them on, and added details in paint and fabric pens. I was blown away by the amazing artwork that resulted!
