New Orleans Dead Cities

On our third day in New Orleans we woke up feeling pretty rested, ate nutella and wheat bread, and decided to go see St. Louis Cemetery #1- a.k.a. the dead city. We walked among the raised tombs and rubble avoiding both ghosts and people more touristy than we are.

We snuck around like thieves so that we could listen to passing tour guides. We learned that the tombs adorned with three X's are voodoo tombs. Rumor has it if you mark three X's on the tomb of a voodoo witch, like Marie Laveau (who is buried in this cemetery), they will grant you a wish. If you don't have anything to mark X's with then you can just leave whatever is in your pockets as a gift for the voodoo spirits.

We also learned that this death pyramid belong to Nicholas Cage and he will be buried here when he dies. The pyramid shape, along with his actions regarding his New Orleans home, have earned him a kind of bad reputation in the area... sorry Nick.
