Why Don’t You… Wear Yves Klein Blue This Fall?

Why Don’t You’ is my weekly tribute to legendary editor Diana Vreeland who penned a column of the same name for Harper’s Bazaar for 26 years begging, “Don’t just be your ordinary dull self. Why don’t you be ingenious and make yourself into something else?”

Perhaps it’s the aquarius in me, but I am pleased to see that New York magazine listed Yves Klein Blue as the new navy for fall.

Officially patented International Klein Blue, French artist Yves Klein introduced the color to the world in 1960 using naked models wearing the paint to um, adhere the color to blank canvases. He would go on to use the color during his art shows, releasing 1001 balloons of the same hue, or serving his guests blue cocktails. He sounds cool, no?

And because fashion imitates art, this color popped up in a big way on the Fall 2014 runways.

This makes me excited for several reasons, but mainly, because I’m utterly obsessed with blue. And two, CiCi. If I were shopping for fall, the items below would need to come live with me.

What say you? Will you give your look a dash of true blue this fall?

p.s. Have you ever seen pictures of the other, hehe, artist named Yves (Saint Laurent)’s Marrakech home? Majorelle Garden (that inspired the polish Bleu Majorelle)? The color is very similar to Yves Klein Blue. I’m adding this to my destination bucket list, ASAP.
