How to Apply Pinterest-Worthy Party Makeup

I’ve worked from home as a “career blogger” for three years running and am generally very disciplined. However, throughout December my productivity levels have plummeted, and I now find absolutely any excuse to waste time (prime example: ‘let me just reorganise my clutch collection by colour’). My latest distraction is Pinterest analytics, which allows you to measure how many impressions, repins, clicks and likes images have received. This month my most popular pins – by a long run – are all of glitter eyeshadow, so I figured I’d better put these stats to good use and find out how to recreate such a look.

Shehla Shaikh, Head Makeup Artist for Lancôme, was my first port of call. She’s created wonderful beauty looks for me in the past, so I knew she’d be full of advice. I sent her the above images, which were sourced on Pinterest, and here’s what she suggested…

“To create that foil-like effect, wet a sparkly silver eye shadow in the Hypnose Palette with a small flat eye shadow brush an apply in a patting motion. Or, alternatively, use the Artliner 24Hr in black for a classic feline flick and paint a coloured sparkling eye shadow along the lower eyelids with a wet brush. Wetting the powder intensifies the colour and glittery effect; and a small headed, flat eye shadow brush will ensure shadow stays in place with minimal falling.”

“If you’re not confident with make up or glitter, use a sparkly eye shadow, such as Hypnose mono’s 102 Pépite Douce, in the inner corner of the eyes to make them pop. You can then deepen the look by lining inside the eyes with black kohl.”

And if you’re not afraid to make a mess and want to give loose glitter a go over party season the best way to stick it in place is with Vaseline or a cream eyeshadow. Just remember to apply your moisturiser, foundation and conceal after you’ve done your eyes, to avoid getting glitter all over your face. I picked up that pro tip from Wendy Rowe’s website.

Will you be giving this look a try over party season? What are your glitter eyemakeup tips?
