Parental Advisory
That was my weekend in a nutshell, which is why today’s post is a day late and a dollar short. So-to-speak.
For better or for workse, there is really nothing quite like having your family in town. (The “for worse” part usually creeps in if (1) the duration of their stay is longer than 72 hours or (2) a trip to Ikea is involved.)
My parents traveled to New York over the weekend and I was grateful for every minute of their stay. It’s an extraordinary event for us to be in the same city these days, since schedules fill up fast and I was traveling in Asia over the holidays last year.
Their visits are infrequent (though significant), so my favorite thing to do when they’re in town is dive head-first into the pulse, culture and guilty pleasure tourist traps of New York City. This generally means lots of walking, an evening Times Square, and (as a result) all of the wine.
All of it.
Let me tell you guys: I was a real bitch of a problem child. Like, the worst. (Tell ‘em, Mom.) I was an expensive one, too — I had braces twice!
As a form of payback, I suppose, they tend to do embarrassing things when we’re together. In a way that your parents probably do, too. I think it’s because they’ve reached that golden age in life where there are truly and utterly zero fucks given.
Respect.
While we are and remain to be incredibly close in my 28 years of life, there are a few minor things that we’ll just never align on. Such as: The ownership of Sketchers shoes, excessive Facebook usage, TEXTING IN CAPS LOCK, and peek-a-boo lace during the daytime (or ever).
This tee was on sale though, Daddio, so you’ll have to deal. Come to New York as often as you please (please!), but understand that you can’t go cramping my single girl style.
Oh, and you can’t zoom in on Instagram, Mom. Love you anyway.
