Crate Paper Tags & Cards :: Melissa Phillips

As you might know, each of our CP Gals has a knack for something special. We asked if they would be willing to share that 'something special' with you via a monthly series using the Crate Paper products you know and love. Each happily agreed. Today we begin the first series installment with CP Gal, Melissa Phillips and Crate Paper's "Craft Market".

Melissa Phillips is a master at Card Making. She has a long history in creating vintage-forward cards with heavy layering using a variety of materials, including patterned paper, frilly fabric, handmade bows, glitter, stamping and other adornments.

Not surprisingly then, Melissa chose the topic "Tags & Cards". In her world, the two go hand-in-hand. She wants to show you how to be creative with both at the same time!

Hi everyone! Melissa Phillips here with you today, kicking off a new series involving two of my favorite paper-crafted items, a 'card' and a 'tag' :). I'm sure that like myself, you have scraps left over after finishing a project, and I can't bear to let those scraps go to waste, so with a few things left over after creating my card today, I'll make a quick tag.

One of my favorite go-to tools that is always nearby, is my die-cut machine. I love being able to use my favorite Crate Paper patterned paper in fun and unusual ways, and die-cutting is one way to do just that. So today, I've used many elements from the new Craft Market collection, and specifically focused on the texture and dimension of the Craft Market Burlap and Glittered Cardstock, both so irresistible! This allowed me to layer on the hearts, some from the Craft Market Ephemera Pack, and some manually cut using my die cut machine. I love stitching my layers together right down the middle to create a cozy, homespun feel.

The tags from the Ephemera Pack are among my favorites to use, as I love layering them, attaching them with staples, and sometimes just letting a portion peek up above or to the side of other elements. A very simple way to layer.

My tag uses a few card leftovers, such as another die-cut burlap heart and a gold die cut flourish, cut from the Craft Market Glittered Cardstock...so fun to have on hand when you need a specific shape for a certain empty spot. The flourish is placed under layered shapes from the Ephemera Pack, ticket stubs, tags, vintage inspired labels, etc.

And then once again, layered hearts, beginning with die cut burlap, a sweet pink heart from the Craft Market Colored Chalkboard Sticker Pack, and topped with a Standouts Sticker...love these! All that was left was to add an accent sticker near the bottom. My stapler is my favorite way to attach my layers together and create a little interest while at it :).

So next time you've finished a project, gather your remaining scraps, your favorite die, and create a quick tag to dress up a package or to hang nearby while you create!
