Do you know what is Desi Food? You might be already familiar with this word if you belong to South Asia or Middle East, As my readers are from all over the World so it might be a new term for many of you. let’s see first “what is Desi Food”.

Desi food anatomy

In India and Pakistan, “Desi” in the context of food, implies “native” or “traditional”. Common examples are “desi ghee”, which is the traditional clarified butter used in India, as opposed to more processed fats such as vegetable oils. (Wikipedia)

In simple words desi food is our homemade spicy & yummy food, rich in ingredients & spices which are available at local stores easily!

Basic Desi Food Elements

Vegetable oil, Ghee, Onion, Garlic, Ginger, Coriander, Tomato,

Red chilli, Black pepper, Clove, Cinnamon, Turmeric, Cumin, Cardamom,

Cooking of a desi food is not so easy, it takes time & effort but the taste in the end is always so yummy. For cooking any desi food you have to start with any vegetable oil-ghee & fry some onions then ginger garlic paste, add spices powder & cook well until makes a paste. then add any vegetable(or chicken) cook until it gets ready..in the end add some coriander or mint leaves to garnish.. A desi dish is mostly ready with similar process!

Popular Pakistani Desi Food

Biryani- A spicy rice food with chicken & sometimes fried vegetables as well.

Chicken Karahi- A yummy chicken food with masala gravy & thick curry

Kabab- A mince made deep fried rolls with rich crushed spices

Samosa- Deep fried triangle pockets filled with potato or vegetables with spices

Daal Chawal- Lentils & boiled Rice..simple & tasty!

All of the above desi food I talk about is not only tasty & spicy, its also healthy & rich in calories. In desi food the one important element I just missed above is Paratha made with flour dough cooked with ghee. That’s served in breakfast mostly. Other foods I write about are lunch or dinner meals.

Desi food is yummy & healthy, anything Rice, Chicken or beef/mutton food is always full of nutrition. As compared to junk food specially, desi food is the best that’s why!

Lifestyle trends are changing everywhere in the world these days, Eating habits are also changing quickly day by day! Its necessary to adopt healthy habits & developing good taste instead of something which is junk & pricy. Eat healthy & well, without spending a lot. Simple desi food is a perfect fit for a healthy body. Junk food is fine but only sometimes.
