Baby Blanket WIP

Last week I told you I have met with darling Ilaria, the creative lady behind the pretty blog IDA Lifestyle and accompanying online yarn shop. When we met a couple of weeks ago we chatted about her soon to be born baby and of course about yarn, and naturally that conversation led to a crochet baby blanket. Because really, what else?

She choose the colours, aren’t they just gorgeous and stylish together? What I love about them is they don’t really call for boy or girl, you can easily pair it up with either pink or blue and the combination would look good both ways.

Besides the sizing, the design part of the blanket was my playground and I knew instantly I wanted to include diamonds. Also lots of softness and warmth for this Winter baby. I started over again about 8 times before I got the right tension, size of the bobbles etc. But boy it was worth it. I keep on stroking the bobbles because of their softness!

The yarn, Annell Malmedy, is 100% wool and new to me. I have never worked with it before and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. It’s really soft when crocheted into bobbles, it’s nicely stretching on the hook, it holds well considering the fact I started over 8 times with the same green ball, it doesn’t loose fibers on your lap while working it, and it is very warm. I haven’t washed it yet, but superwash sounds very promising for baby blankets and last but not least, the price is very charming! Have a look here for more inspiring colours. What you see here: black 2559, mint 2522, cream 2543.

I can’t wait to finish the blanket and see how the stripe and diamond design comes along!
