Despite the lack of recent Cheap Thrills posts to prove it, I have been finding lots of goodies the last few months. We spent a really great Sunday morning sipping on lattes and eating croissants while we visited garage sales and estate sales, followed by a visit to the market where we bought a tub of yogurt and some local strawberries for our lunch while we browsed through the vendors.

The first estate sale was a bit of a bust, it was day two for the sale and not much was left. We walked in, to a crowded narrow home and it was immediately clear that there wasn’t much left, and whatever was still decent was in the hands of our fellow buyers who had already raided the leftovers. We did not leave empty handed but came home with a couple of records each, including the two above that I picked out for myself.

I wont lie, I was a little disappointed. After weeks of not being able to visit any estate sales (vacations, family in town, etc), we finally could make it to one and not only was there barely anything worth buying, there wasn’t even any weird/creepy/unusual things to gawk at. We headed to the next estate sale, and I had pretty low expectations. It was the third day of the sale and I assumed it would be pretty cleaned out. Luckily, I was completely wrong and this lovely hoarder home still had plenty to offer. I picked up everything pictured above – minus the records - as well as 3 very nice sweaters (cashmere camelhair). Also not pictured is a Five Roses Pastry Board that rolls up. Which I googled and can’t even find a picture of.

This place was my dream estate sale, I can only imagine what it had to offer on day one. Because by day three, there was still so much. Thank god for hoarders. Hoarders helping hoarders everywhere become hoarders. This house – in a fairly rich neighbourhood – had a wood panelled basemen, built in fully stocked bar and all, that hadn’t changed since the 70s. Looking at the booze bottles, assumedly from the same decade as the decor, I briefly wondered if Matt would have me institutionalized if I tried to take them all home.

I kinda wish I had taken more – but my better judgement kicked in and I thought 2 hand fulls of stuff was enough. I think those picture frames will be great for my instagram shots that sit in my phone. Though honestly, I kinda love those 70s pictures that are in there now. Bob has already claimed that welcome mat as his own – rightfully so. No blue birds have decided to perch on his butt yet though. We still have hope.
