Sir James Bar

We shot a wedding at the famous Katy’s palace bar a few weeks ago and while scouting stumbled upon the Sir James Van Der Merwe Bar downstairs.

When you walk in you feel like you might be in New York or London in one of those cool, secret bars (like in the great gatsby). Black and white checkered floor, a big welcoming bar and a room crammed full with interesting furniture, artefacts and decor – it was instant love!

Here’s the little story behind the bar:

“Sir James van der Merwe took it upon himself to go on a gentleman’s quest to find the perfect place to enjoy a drink. He travelled near and far, but in the end he knew that if he were to find the best, he would need to open his own bar.

The space he created is eclectic and inviting, a worldly cocktail of treasured trinkets from his travels with a shot of local flair. Sir James is not one to stay still, he is rather vibrant and energetic whether he is hosting a club night party or inviting his friends for a game of billiards.”

Here are a few pictures of the interiors but I really don’t think the pictures do the space justice. I also couldn’t resist including a few sneak pictures from Alexia and Alberts wedding! These two were the best!

Isn’t she lovely?

Sir James van der Merwe is available to rent as a venue and is open every Wednesday from 16:00 for after work drinks. I can imagine some G&T’s going down pretty well over a sunset!
