RECAP | Taren Guy's Luv & Learn Your Hair Tour (DC)
Taren's Luv & Learn Your Hair tour stop in DC was ahhhhmazing. First of all, I still feel absolutely honored to be a part of her event. She of course is the headliner that has the great opportunity to travel and have this tour worldwide with awesome sponsors such as Motions, Carol's Daughter, Hairfinity, and more. The event has been to Chicago, Houston, and Amsterdam. And she still has plenty of more cities to tour. Again she is the headliner and everyone loves what she brings to the natural hair community but still, her allowing her fellow bloggers to be apart of the event really makes me respect her even more! Having popular bloggers will get the word out about the event and possibly bring more curls to the event but her allowing us to be apart of something this huge is still very much appreciated. So bravo Taren for showing the love.
My overall experience as a guest blogger was pretty memorable. Her team really took care of me. Shout out to Alexis...she don't take no mess. Ha ha! She is a #BOSS, let me tell you. We were in contact for awhile before the event to make sure everything ran smoothly. I've been the graphic designer for the tour- creating the event flyers and other projects as needed. At the event, Alexis ran the show and put out random little fires. And being behind the scenes kinda scared me to throw my own event. Its a lot of work ladies. But Taren and her team handled these little mishaps with the upmost professionalism. There were power outages, venue changes, sound problems, etc. It was crazy.
When I arrived at the event I was greeted and escorted upstairs which was considered "backstage" or "behind the scenes". There the other bloggers and their teams were getting their make-up done, having drinks, socializing, and then I saw the lovely Taren Guy hanging out in her VIP area. She look absolutely stunning! I swear that blonde hair of hers is like a personally lighting system! Lol. She had a glow to her and she was very friendly with a huge smile on her face. Taren is so down to earth, I love it! We all hung out upstairs for awhile chatting it up, doing interviews, taking pictures and we discussed the blogger's panel together. Again, her team catered to us bringing us water, directing us to interviews, and where to go to next. I really felt like a celebrity. He he!
Once the event started we were escorted to the Motions VIP lounge which was beautifully decorated. It was had all white furniture, satin curtains that blew in the wind, white tables that glowed with purple lights! The décor was perfection! Taren kept the crowd entertained, as well as Alexis. There were discussions, the crowd interacted, and lots of giveaways! Then the bloggers panel started...we were escorted to the stage. I was so surprised by how many women in the building knew who I was. I felt so special. Every step I took someone said hi or asked for a picture or had a story about how I inspired them, how they loved my channel, my hair, etc. The love was soooooooooooo ahhhhhmazing. That is why I love attending these events. The love yall show me keeps me grounded and inspired to continue to do what I love to do!
Once on stage, myself, Kirstin Walker, and Jennifer Rose all took our seats. We talked for a few minutes, posed for pictures for the crowd, and then we got started. Taren joined us and we discussed random topics like natural hair & kids, fitness, natural hair in general (of course), the kind of men we attract with natural hair, pregnancy & hormones (shedding hair), natural hair in salons, and sooooooooooo much more! The panel was so intimate and we interacted with the crowd, they came up to the mic to ask questions or just get random things off their chest. There were even a few fellas in the building. Lol. Again, the vibe was so dope...lighting was perfect, the people were so friendly and down to earth, drinks flowing, vendors galore & so much more. I want to give special thanks to Taren Guy, Alexis, Kirstin, Jennifer, and to all my curlfriends who supported this event. Oh and let's not forget Motions! The event was so much fun. I learned a lot from participating- business wise. And curls, I even have Taren Guy as my newest graphic design client. I will be creating the rest of the flyers for the tour as well as some other projects in the near future. I'm so excited to add her to my client list! So honored.
