Casa Ristorante Italiano, King Street Wharf: Finally something decent around here!

This is where they make-a the pizzas.

Their Signature martini – lychee and chilli. Sweet with a kick. Another one, please!

Antipasto platter – so much food before the meal even began!

The freshness corner.

Pizza chef Salvatore showing off some tricks. Randomly he’s a winner in pizza acrobatics (how do you discover that’s what you’re good at?!)

Seared scallops with parsnip purée & garlic. They’re crumbed potato chips on top.

Classic arancini – Fried risotto balls stuffed with pumpkin & smoked mozzarella
served with a chilli mayonnaise.

Fried calamari – an oldie but a goodie.

Fiori di zucca (zucchini flowers) – they’re so old school! But I suppose they’re a popular dish.

The pizza – various accounts say this was pretty good.

Pork belly – a crowd pleaser. So crispy and fatty and oh god…

Duck egg gnocchi with pumpkin puree and peas. Carbs on carbs.

I like how they put 2 fancy sea creatures in home made ravioli and then were like “needs more seafood” so finished it off with a shellfish butter sauce.

Tiramisu – creamy and rich. I was so full I couldn’t finish it.

More dessert! Sticky date pudding with caramel sauce.

I shouldn’t hate on tourists… But I kind of do. Stop being so touristy!

Finally, something actually decent on touristy King Street Wharf! Casa Ristorante Italiano has recently re-opened after a major renovation by the same guys who did Alpha and China Republic. It’s mainly outdoor seating which makes total sense because with a view like that sitting inside seems almost pointless.

Casa prides themselves on fresh handmade pastas, their pizzas made by Sicilian-born pizza chef, Salvatore D’Avola and the use of fresh, quality ingredients (they even have a little grocery display near the kitchen – very cute).

Their menu is quite extensive, but some of the highlights are the pork belly, lobster and crab ravioli and maialina pizza (with prosciutto and mozzarella). I tried the lobster and crab ravioli – buttery and definitely fatty but so very good.

So if you find yourself on King Street Wharf, which is actually really pretty once you get past all the meandering tourists, and feel like a good feed – Casa Ristorante Italiano is the way to go.
