Winter Woes

It took a while, but winter has certainly arrived. Hearing "low twenties" "high winds" and "wind chill" in daily forecasts doesn't feel too great, does it? The best solution to this problem is a vacation, but the second best is a cozy turtleneck (or five). This classic staple has graced the necks of countless style icons, think: Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Jackie O. Go the extra mile to look stylish and fool yourself into loving winter.
I know what you're thinking. Turtlenecks are frumpy, they make your neck itchy, they make you look neckless. Blah blah blah. I know the stigmas against turtlenecks, but I'm here to tell you that they're really not all that bad.
Before making a huge comeback this season, turtlenecks were never really my thing. My mother has always sworn by them, so I guess she was onto something. Thanks, mom. With that exposure and going to school in snowy Syracuse, I hopped on the turtleneck bandwagon faster than you can say turtleneck.
My current obsession is a boyfriend-fit, thin knit turtleneck that sits comfortably somewhere between a chunky oversize sweater and a slim-fit pullover. No matter what body fit you prefer though, my best advice is to take advantage of a long, lean neck and bunch up the knit a bit. Don’t fashion a roll or perfect fold; let the extra fabric gather in a perfect messy elegance that fits the trend so well. Winter layering with a turtleneck is perfect for any occasion, day or night. Pick a colorful option to off-set an all-black outfit, or layer a cozy cream-colored sweater under a dress that would otherwise bare some skin.
Say goodbye to freezing your butt off in thin long sleeved shirts and embrace the warmth of the turtleneck trend. From what it looks like, we're all going to be needing this style to stick around, and you never know, you may start to love winter.
Warm and chic is a fabulous combo. xx, ZM
