Weekend Update

Happy Chinese New Year (for those celebrating)! I am still in Japan for the holiday (Kyoto right now, to be exact) and have eaten more on this trip than I have on any other travels this past year. I’m very happy here, and extremely well fed!
1. I saw the chicest woman checking in simultaneously with us at our hotel in Kyoto, and couldn’t help admiring her straw bag and asking where it was from. Imagine my surprise when it ended up being not from some local Japanese store, but Net-A-Porter!
I love the vibrant colors of this tote and think it’d be the perfect shopping bag/travel tote for spring and summer. I always think a straw bag looks super chic, and this one is particularly unique because of all of the colors. Perfect with a simple top and jeans as modeled above.
2. Since I’m in Japan, I thought I’d share this interesting article from David Chang’s Lucky Peach (did you know he had a magazine? I didn’t!) about making ramen in Japan, versus America.
3. Those with some free time and an interest in the entertainment industry will enjoy this in depth article about the Sony hack, via Vanity Fair. I think it’s a shame that Amy Pascal resigned – I’d love to hear your opinions.
4. Continuing on the Japan theme…I wanted to recommend a great Japanese (translated) mystery/thriller novel I recently read, Salvation of a Saint.
I love detective novels (when they aren’t predictable) and when I find an author I like, try to read whatever I find from them. I really enjoy Keigo Higashino’s Detective Galileo series, though not all volumes have been translated yet. For those who also enjoy detective series, I would recommend Salvation of a Saint. A great read and also a little look into some aspects of Japanese culture.
