Here We Go Again!

Here on the east coast we just keep getting hammered with snow and frigid temps. Again, and again, and again.

I was kind of in denial with the snow we were supposed to get today. Was looking forward to getting in the studio and practicing this morning, after teaching about 8 classes this week. I did get on my mat a few times this week, but it’s always a treat to make in on my mat on Monday morning if a client has to reschedule. I could not believe how much we already had at 7:30 this morning! Crazy! And this isn’t even the worst of it…this weekend we are supposed to get 20 inches! I am really, really not one to complain about the weather..but between this and the below zero temps this past month….to say I am over it would be an understatement!

We finally invested in a snow blower yesterday! So Michael is out there having fun with that and our neighbors are LOVING us right now….less shoveling for them!

But anyway…complaining about the snow isn’t what the title of this blog post was referencing. If you follow me on instagram, twitter or facebook, I announced that we are expecting baby #2!!!

Above is me at 10 weeks. Since this photo I cleaned my mirror (yuck). I can’t believe how quickly I popped this time. What they say is true! The second one you show much sooner. Last time I was walking around, pelvis first, couldn’t WAIT to start showing..this time…to quote this hilarious article, I am all like “OH, Shit! I am already showing and I’m only ONE WEEK PREGNANT!”

Ok..

How am I feeling? Better. I was pretty sick there for a bit. Everything made me nauseous. Especially the healthiest food I loved. It kind of sucks when you can only get carbs down, and veggies want top make you gag. Ick. It’s getting A LOT better though. I just have to honor my body, how I am feeling, and keep eating, stay hydrated, and stay active. With this snow and low energy it is tougher some weeks to get in as many workouts as I want, but I can’t complain too much overall. I am tired, it is crazy with a toddler this time, but managing. I just nap WITH Ella some days when I can! And as you can see from the mirror, house work has slacked a little…I only have time to clean my kitchen 2x a day and the floors, and some laundry before I’ve had it. Weez and I took the opportunity this AM to get some cleaning in though!

Am I showing? Yes. Well, a little if I wear a tight shirt. I compare what I look like at almost 11 weeks to where I was at around 14-15 weeks the last pregnancy.

Weight Gain: I am not really sure because I don’t really weigh myself regularly. I don’t really believe in the scale as a measure of health or body fat. However, a few weeks ago I got the flu for like the first time in my life, then had awful morning sickness and barely ate all week. Out of curiosity, and concern, I stepped on the scale and I was a little lower then where I was before I got pregnant with Ella. Which is low for me, and I haven’t seen that number SINCE Weez was born….but I went to the doc and was up 3 pounds from that, because once I felt better I ate my face off. Most of it was probably dehydration and water loss anyway.

Sleep: I was in the routine where I’d wake up at 5am, like clockwork, exhausted and not able to fall back asleep. Annoying. That has gotten better. I am getting VERY vivid dreams. I had a dream a few weeks ago I was teaching yoga to Chris Christie and his staff on a highway, and once class was over they all drove off, and I was stuck in the middle of the highway with cars coming at me at 90 miles an hour. It was terrifying. Then I woke up and it was 5am and I couldn’t fall back asleep.

Food aversions: Chicken that isn’t masked with something (like home made baked chicken parm—no breading—smothers in Raos and cheese is OK), FISH! (when I FINALLY thought that was over I made turbot and got a really slimy bite, and it ruined it all over for me again), zucchini noodles, certain salads, roasted cruciferous veggies (even though I am trying to add those in more but the smell, oh the smell), and I was making Weezy some grain-free banana pancakes (her favorite!) and couldn’t run to the bathroom fast enough after the smell hit me like a bus when cutting them up for her. I wasn’t feeling sweet potatoes for a bit either but that has passed.

Cravings: Fried egg sandwiches on Ezekial toast, olives, milkshakes (but I haven’t had one yet, just really wanted one for some reason!), red bliss potatoes. Weird stuff and nothing has been too extreme….I think just things that my stomach could handle..like the carbs (potatoes, bread). And occasionally I am craving things I really “shouldn’t” be having like cookies or something.

Weezy: She seems excited. She is also convinced there’s a baby in her belly as well. When we tell her there’s a baby in mommy’s belly lifts her shirt, points to her belly button and she says: “BeBe Rose (her baby doll) is in E’s belly too!” She’s at this stage where she has to do everything I do..very cute.

Helpful Healthy Eats!

I am obsessed with grain-free warm porridge in the morning. Bananas have REALLY helped for some reason. It’s funny because since flowtox I haven’t been eating many bananas…but now I am back on my kick! I currently make it with:

  • 2 T chia
  • 2 T ground flax
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small mashed banana
  • a bunch of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • a pinch of sea salt
  • 1/4 cup home made cashew milk (see below) or BPA-free canned coconut milk

Place the flax, chia, cinnamon, vanilla and water in a small saucepan on medium-high heat. Add egg, and whisk the heck out of it for like a minute. add mashed banana and start adding as much milk as needed. Put heat on low, keep whisking until it’s all fluffy (about 3-4 minutes). Add more cinnamon if you like as well!

We have a flowtox-friendly version that is GREAT going up on that blog soon!

In the way beginning a little bit of ginger-aid kombucha was helping, then I couldn’t look at it. Now, I have discovered that my delicious home made cashew milk not only helps when crazy unhealthy cravings hit. Did you know that Cashew milk is LOADED with B6…which is very helpful in warding off morning sickness!!!

Here’s the latest version I am making and why I refuse to buy nut milk from the store..simple, no sweetener, thick, creamy and AMAZING! Seriously guys, its CHEAP to make, EASY, and you won’t miss the “convenience” of the boxed stuff. I promise. Just get in the routine of doing it…and let it soak in your blender for ADDED convenience!

Home Made Cashew-Milk

  • 1 cup raw unsalted cashews
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or some vanilla bean if you want to get fancy)
  • a pinch of sea salt

I let mine soak for at least 8 hours..the longer, the creamier! Soak the cashews and water together. Then, when you’re ready to make it add the rest of the ingredients and blend.

Best part—NOP STRAINING NEEDED! THIS is why cashew milk is the way to go! Many people buy almond milk because they don’t want to deal with pulp. Well, pulp no more!

Ok. This has been long enough! Hopefully we can get a few more pregnancy updates on here as time goes on! Love looking back on the old ones from last time…so that will motivate me

Thanks for reading if you’re here! Many have probably forgotten about me by now!
