Some things I’ve been into lately:

I keep forgetting to post about this album by Sylvan Esso, a collaboration between electronic producer Nick Sanborn and the crazy amazing voice of Amelia Meath of Mountain Man. I heard Stephen Thompson recommend it on Pop Culture Happy Hour a few weeks back and have been listening to it nonstop, but just plain forgot to share the musical magic with you guys. Every song is a gem, but I particularly like “H.S.K.T” and “Coffee”.

Somehow it had completely passed by me that Norah Jones and Billie Joe Armstrong (yeah, that one) made a little collaborative country/folk album last year. My mom brought it to my attention this morning and I’ve been listening to it on and off all day. I love everything Norah does ever since my days of jazz singing in college, I think she’s so talented and interesting, and I guess I’ve felt pretty meh about Billie Joe after my high school days of worshiping Green Day until I broke up with my boyfriend with blue spiky hair when I was 16. A lot of the songs sound a bit the same, but they’re lovely and sweet, according to good ol’ Wikipedia, Foreverly is a collection of traditional songs, and is a reinterpretation of the 1958 album Songs Our Daddy Taught Us by The Everly Brothers. I like a good collaboration and this is a good album you can put on when you need a sweet crowd pleaser.

Moses Sumney, whom I recently mentioned here, shared with KCRW a Nick Hakim he’s into lately with KCRW for their new “Fandom” blog series. “Pour Another” is fantastic and will please all you James Blake fans I know follow.

And lastly, the new First Aid Kit album, Stay Gold, is streaming on NPR! It’s a goodie, go have a listen until it comes out on June 10th.
