10 More One-Ingredient Beauty Tips

One of the reasons I love natural beauty products so much is that they’re so simple. Just one ingredient can go a long, long way. Last year we shared five of our favorite one-ingredient beauty tips, and today I’m sharing ten more. There is an infinite amount to add to this list, so if you have any favorites, please share!

This has been my go-to for quite some time. If you’ve never tried it, you’re going to be amazed at how quickly jojoba oil dissolves eye makeup – even mascara, which can be tricky to remove. Just apply some to your lids with a cotton ball, gently massaging as you go, and then wash your face as usual. Pure magic!

Use a banana is a gentle way to hydrate and soften sensitive skin. Bananas contain lots of beautiful nutrients, like zinc, iron, manganese, and vitamins A, B, C, and E. Mash one up and apply to clean, damp skin. Let sit for about 20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry. Voila!

I learned this incredible tip when I tried going shampoo-free last winter: arrowroot flour is a wonderful way to soak up unwanted oil. Just use your fingertips to apply to your roots – a little at a time – and brush through if necessary. If arrowroot alone is too light-colored for your hair, you can add a little cocoa powder to the mix!

We know ghee as a sacred ingredient in ayurvedic diets, but this magical ingredient can be used for beauty, as well! The next time you’re cooking with it, apply a tiny amount to your lips to add a healthy amount of moisture in a snap. Learn more about the benefits of ghee – and how to make your own!

Whole-milk yogurt is surprisingly an excellent way to cleanse the skin. The milk fat sucks out impurities, while the lactic acid acts as a gentle exfoliator. Simply massage a small amount into your skin, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry.

Tea tree oil is one of the strongest natural antiseptics out there. It’s also antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, and more. To help nip acne-causing bacteria in the bud, dilute some tea tree oil in water and use as a spot treatment before bed.

Rich in antioxidants like vitamin A and carotene, carrot seed oil makes for a gorgeously hydrating face serum. Massage a few drops into freshly cleansed skin, and let the moisture sink in at once.

Cucumber is known for its ability to cool and calm the skin. Puree one in a blender, extract the juice, and apply to your face and neck to tone the skin and cleanse the pores. Leave on for about a half hour, then rinse with cool water.

Similar to lemons, oranges contain natural acids that are great for exfoliating the skin – only oranges are much more mild. After showering, splash your body with freshly-squezed orange juice and massage into the skin for a gentle, natural exfoliation.

Rosehip oil is an excellent way to soften, hydrate, and revitalize dry hair. Simply warm some up (over the stove or just in your hands), and massage into your scalp and hair, focusing on the ends. Leave on for about an hour, and then wash hair as usual.
