Barton Springs Escape

When the body is tired, rest is required. Have you ever had the urge to just lay? To find the greenest and softest blades of grass — sun beams shining from above – -where imprints of relaxed muscle, bone and thought are created. Silhouette sinks in, head laying gently, and a peek of the eye reveals the nature dancing in the wind. It sways back and forth, just like the clouds above. Watching them reminds me that time is still in this moment, and focus should be channeled to breath. Slow, deep breath.

Escaping to Barton Springs as the hype of SXSW began to die down wasn’t a hard decision. Sunday pushed aside the rain clouds that had moved in for most of the weekend, and a bit of that Texas heat rolled through Austin. I’ll be honest and say that I really can’t remember the last time I felt as tired as I did that Sunday. Sleep is so vital to my being. If I don’t get enough of it, I feel it all over. The excitement of the fest made me neglect slumber. Gathering content and working all day only leaves the night to play, and when you’re surrounded by musical energy and good people, enjoying the experience only happens naturally. When all comes to an end though, escaping to find rest and solitude is the best practice to rejuvenate the soul.

Barton Springs is quite the gem. Tucked away in Zilker Park, discovering this place for the first time was one of the best things that happened all weekend. A pool of fresh spring water sits just above the flowing Barton Creek, and anyone is welcome to take a dip. Too cold for me, but the adjacent overlooking hill was all I needed. I can’t even imagine the crowd this place brings in during the summer months. I’d gladly spend most of my days here if Austin was my home. It was just the dose of serenity that I needed, and I can’t think of any other way I would have rather brought SXSW to a close.

Next time you’re in Austin, mosey on over to Barton Springs. And remember…

Rest up. It’s festival season.
