Cozy Winter Style As A #DSW #ShoeLover

I never thought I would describe 34 degrees as “warm,” but living in Chicago, it’s been delightful after two very cold weeks in the 10’s. (Yes, a whopping 10 degrees, you totally read that right). I have been living in my snow boots, but there are days when you are desperate to look less like a lumberjack and more like a sophisticated city dweller who knows how to dress for the temps.
When I was looking for polished, I found exactly that- in a form of gorgeous, high gloss, polished Ralph Lauren leather riding boots which I snagged at DSW. They’re an investment piece- a good pair of leather boots can last you 3-5 years, even with awful Chicago winters.
My last pair, which were due to be retired were my go-tos for too long, Chicago winters that are practical enough to be comfortable when walking to the train, but still nice enough to look put together when you get to where you’re going. Honestly, there are weeks where heels and flats are simply not an option for city living in the midwest, boots are a lifesaver.
Riding boots can be dressed up or down- they’d look good with a heavy parka or a light peacoat. For years, I’ve had a standard black peacoat and a navy down feather parka. Last year, I added a statement peacoat in a fun cranberry red to the mix- which honestly dresses up the dreary winter days. Who doesn’t love a pop of color?
Thick leggings Peacoat riding boots & thick socks = enough warmth to get you through the day, but look nice enough to beat the winter blues. It’s classic for a reason, it just works for winter.
Winter is a challenge for me since I get cold so easy- but with a pop of color and an extra coat of polish with the right pair of boots, you’ll make a statement in the cold months with a bit of warmth. Also, I suggest a bold lip color, even during the workday- it helps brighten up a look when it’s chilly outside!
