5 Things: Feeling Motivated.

So after my ‘getting organised’ post went up this week, I thought I would also jot down my tips for getting your ass in gear. Basically. Unlike everyone else who seems to have had a seriously productive start to the year, I was pretty late in catching the motivated bug (still experiencing the effects of a food hungover). However, after an office clear-out and a general life sort-of, I’m feeling good.

De-Clutter & Get Yourself Organised
Okay, I say this as my first tip on every one of these posts (and I always write something like this too… YOLO) but there’s a lot to be said for throwing away pointless nonsense cluttering your life. I’m attempting to become one of those people who buys a good quality item once, rather than buying cheap and buying a hundred times. I’m getting better about hoarding cosmetics and keeping my desk clear and it’s great – it means when you’re actually ready to get in to a project, there’s a free space to do it and you can find everything easily.
Once you have decluttered, set up your workspace (head to Pinterest for inspiration) so you feel happy and inspired.

Plan For The Year
I got a brand new notebook (see my next point) and thought about what I want from the year – this is my 25th year on the planet (scary times, I have until December so I’m going to make it count) so I want to try and live a little. Travel, do up my flat and generally do the things that I want to do. I’m opening up a stationery e-shop this year (yup, my big news) and s0 I’ve had some serious planning to do regarding that. I think my main aim is to get that off the ground and really work hard on my blog, Nouvelle and other projects – while also doing everything else I want to do. It’s doable, they’re not unrealistic goals and I’m excited to get to work on them.
Make a list of what you’re excited about this year – school goals, work aims, social things, everything and that will get you feeling motivated in an instant.

New Stationery
I wholeheartedly believe that new stationery is key to living a long, fulfilling life. Okay, well maybe not – but it will definitely help you keep on track. I went to Paperchase recently and stocked up and it was glorious, I heard angels singing as I picked new pens and cute highlighters. Stationery is a life essential so don’t be afraid to treat yourself.

Stick To A Routine
I sometimes get distracted from my tasks because I work at home, for myself. A lot of “ooh Netflix” “I want cake, lets bake a cake” happens if I’m not on schedule, so I try to create blog schedule calendars to stick to, and also content calendars for social media. I also try and set aside an hour a day (or even on a Sunday afternoon) to blitz emails – little hour slots like this mean you keep up with those boring little tasks we all have to do. Try not to deviate too much from your day to day routine, but shake it up a little if things start to get boring.

Find A Way To Enjoy It
Of course, I adore my job – but sometimes if I feel like it’s all work, work, work I start to feel slightly unmotivated. I never mind getting up in the morning, but sometimes actually getting shit done is impossible. Those days I tend to just move on to something else – for example, photographing for posts rather than writing and doing emails instead of scheduling posts. Little change ups like that mean I’m always busy but it’s never boring. I think you can apply this to any job or chore so keep it in mind no matter what you do!

How do you stay motivated?
