Kitchen Planning!

It’s happened – I have finally started properly kitchen planning. Sure, I had an idea of what I wanted a year ago but it’s only recently that things have progressed past the IKEA kitchen planner!

Our kitchen at present is just hideous. The oven is broken (yep, we’ve managed to go for ~6 months without an oven or a microwave), the worktop is gross, the boiler is older than me (probably), and half of the window is covered up. I could go on, but I’ll spare you.
It’s always been the top priority, but we got the bathroom out of the way first as a way to ease us in to these big jobs. Now, the time has come. I’m scared, so scared. The bathroom was a crazy big job and the kitchen is so much bigger. Someone hold me and tell me everything will be alright.

I already have my beautiful mint Smeg fridge, so we’re halfway there, right? Haw haw. Everything except the fridge needs to get in the bin – there’s nothing I would save. We’re going for an IKEA kitchen because they seem like an easy option, though I haven’t quite decided on worktops and cupboards. I think I’ll go for wood worktops and white cabinets, along with the same floorboards we have in there now.
I wanted to inject some marble in there somewhere (obvs I couldn’t have a room without it), and I’ve had a marble hexagon tile splashback on my mind since time began (thanks, Pinterest), but I haven’t managed to find any. I’m still dreaming of a marble-style worktop… maybe I can faux it.
I’m just in love with this makeover, I want open shelving so I’m going to show my kitchen guys these snaps.

Instead of the marble hex design, I think I’ll opt for a simple herringbone, dark grout tile splashback. It’s easy enough to do, but different enough from our bathroom to work.
I love the idea of lots of gold details – taps and light fittings, but I know this could get pricey. I’m willing to do some serious shopping around though!

We’re also getting a window seat put in; this involves moving around the whole layout of the kitchen – but I know it’ll be worth it when we can see out of the window, and enjoy the best light in the evenings. I love the idea of lots of bright, mix-matched chairs around the dining table.
Hopefully one day I’ll own this mint chair – it’s been on my Pinterest boards for long enough! Oh, and a KitchenAid to match…

What do you think of my plans so far?
