I often get asked about styling a rent home, or how to make university halls look more homely, so I’ve put together a few pointers to help you all out. These tips work for anyone, and I can guarantee you’ll soon feel happier in your space…
Add Greenery
Always, always my first point – greenery transforms a space! Not only does it add leafy colour, but they’re a lovely way to make your space feel more like home. My own home growing up was pretty much a jungle, as my mum loves plants so much – she’s definitely passed this on!
I recommend cacti and succulents (head to IKEA!) if you have a small space or are away a lot, but pick up a Snake Plant (Mother In Law’s Tongue), Ivy or a Peace Lily if you fancy lots of leafy greens in your space.
The area above in a corner in my bedroom; white floors and white walls can be hard to work with, but the bursts of greenery make it come alive.
Pick A Theme
It’s really easy to pick up what you like and insist that they work together, but it’s a whole lot easier to work with some sort of theme. Go around your rooms and study what’s in there already, and then decide on a good colour scheme. In our bedroom, we like to go for marble, white and gold. The living room is copper with pops of colour, the bathroom is black, white and mint green. I’m not strict with it, but it helps when styling the space to have a colour scheme to work with.
Style A Space
So you’ve bought what you need to make the area nice, and now it’s time for the hard part – styling the space. I try to style every area in my home as I think it’s what makes my home, feel like home.
Bookshelves, the tops of drawers, TV cabinets, kitchen shelves – all these areas could probably do with a restyle. Stack books, add in trinkets, style ornaments, add in vases of flowers and pot plants, throw in photo frames – work with what you’ve got, but place them so it looks aesthetically pleasing!
Are you planning on updating your space?
