Hoop-La Blog Tour: Follow The White Bunny

Is it just me, or have the last few weeks passed especially quickly? This is the very last stop on the Hoop-La blog tour, and I’m torn between being sad it’s almost over and enormously grateful for the wonderful blog posts and comments generated. To round things off in style, I’m very happy to welcome Nicole from Follow The White Bunny.

NOTES: Follow the White Bunny is one of the newer blogs in my reader, but has become an instant favourite. Nicole is an embroiderer, and her pieces are just beautiful – full of incredible detail and the most amazing stitchwork. Most of her designs feature animals, and I’m especially blown away by the shading and fur effects she creates. The variety of stitches she uses is also inspiring and, as well as sharing finished pieces. Nicole often posts details of her stitchy experiments. I love that her work is as much about the stitches and the process as it is about the end results, which are all the more lovely for the consideration which has gone into their creation.

THREE FAVOURITE POSTS:

• As someone who is constantly whizzing from one project to the next and the next, this post on slow crafts – deliberately taking your time over a piece of work – really spoke to me. If you go back and read through Nicole’s archives, you’ll see the gradual progress of her Bear and Fish project, and it’s a joy watching it slowly come together.
• The downside of 5 Embroidery Aha Moments: no stitched portraits of Morten Harket, use of the phrase ‘don’t eat a chocolate cookie’. The upside: some really useful stitching and embroidery advice, mention of the Most Excellent Party Bear.
• To really appreciate how clever Nicole’s stitching is, have a look at the close-up image of the tiny jackalope in this post, and then find the original (free) pattern here. The original is just lovely, but the way the stitches bring it to life is completely wonderful.
