Hoop-La Blog Tour: Notes on Paper
So, another week, another bunch of terrific Hoop-La blog tour guests, and today I’m playing it cool so you won’t guess how excited I am to welcome Julie Kirk: papercrafter, occasional collaborator and co-creator of the velocirollercape (it’s a long story).

NOTES: It’s hard to know where to start describing a blog you know almost as well as your own. Julie is one of my oldest and dearest online friends, and her blog is right at the top of my reader. She is a maker, a writer and a collector, both of things and of stories. Most of her work involves paper, whether it’s in the form of cards, scrapbook layouts or journal pages, and I love the way she combines words and pictures to create projects which are as intriguing as they are beautiful. I’m also constantly inspired by the way she uses found pieces – many of them repurposed from old books – to create work which has a unique and truly individual feel.

THREE FAVOURITE POSTS:
- As part of her recent Going Postal series, Julie made a set of thirty collaged postcards, and, in all the time I’ve known her, they might just be my favourite projects ever.
- This post involves words and pictures recycled from an old book, plus lots of yellow (a colour obsession I caught from Julie in the first place), which makes it pretty much perfect in my eyes. I’m also certain it’s impossible not to love any blog post which includes the phrase, ‘would you close the porthole?’.
- The house that Julie built is truly a wonderful and tiny thing. To the point where I quite want to buy one of the gorgeous vintage paper packs from her shop and use the pieces to decorate the outside of my own, full-sized house.
