Christmas Shopping

This weekend, we began prepping for Christmas at home. For the first time since we got married, we’re having Christmas at our very own place, with our own tree. I actually get to enjoy my Christmas tree on Christmas morning! This is a foreign concept to me. We’re needing a restful holiday and have traveled so much during the holidays over the years that we’re actually looking forward to not having to travel anywhere. It was not our original plan, and It will be very strange to not be surrounded by family, but I’ll have my guy and our two pups and it’ll be a simple Christmas. Does this officially make us grown-ups now?

Christmas Eve will include sleeping in, good coffee, our church’s Christmas Eve service, slaving over prepping homemade cinnamon buns for the following morning, and roasting a whole chicken for Christmas Eve dinner. I’m so looking forward to starting some new traditions, that it has almost put more pressure on our relaxed Christmas than necessary. For example, do I really want to commit to homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning? Is roasting a whole chicken something we’ll want every year? Should we just go out to eat on Christmas Eve? Will that be possible to do every year? Will we want to do that every year? (And my latest…) Should we attempt The Feast of the Seven Fishes? That last one got vetoed in my head immediately. Way too much work, but it’s a nice thought.

Maybe we can tweak our traditions over the next few Christmases before we have kids and by the time they arrive, it’ll be juuuuuust right? It’s a thought.

Oh! And before I go…

…and happy 8th night of Hanukkah!
