{Graffiti} Summer Beauty Essentials + How To Use Coconut Oil

Next to fashion and beauty, food is probably my most favorite thing to photograph or discuss. While there are plenty of uses for coconut oil in the kitchen (most recently I have started using Coconut Butter Spread and highly recommend it) I brought this food fad into my beauty routine.

My summer beauty essentials are always changing. One summer my go-to’s were just 1 coat of mascara, tinted moisturizer, and plenty of SPF. (I was playing a lot of tennis.) Another summer it was all about creating a waterproof shield on my face and beating the heat. This never works well of course. The second you jump into that pool you know 2 seconds later you are turning to your best friend and asking her how badly your eyeliner collected at your cheeks and chin.

This summer is all about protecting your natural beauty. While my days mainly consist of me spinning around in my office chair with weekend getaways, I have had a bit of a calmer and more controlled environment to test a few new goods. This summer’s current picks in addition to Coconut Oil? EOS Lip Balm, Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess, MAC Lipstick, and Organix Sea Mineral Moisture Weightless Replenishing Spray. The real question though…is HOW do you use this jar of coconut goodness without feeling like an oily mess? Is it as disgusting as it looks? The answer to that is thankfully, no. Read on below to learn how to rock this summer’s newest beauty fad!

(Face) Yes! You can use Coconut Oil on your face. And, no…you will not break out. I used the back of my thumbnail and took out a little less than a dime size. Then, I rubbed it between my fingers. You’ll find it immediately loses its rough consistency and becomes the oil that you expected. Last but not least, apply! It’s definitely odd to have your face uber shiny and not expect your face to break out like you jumped back to high school…but trust me, it’s worth the try. Smooth and soft skin ahead!

(Body) Apply right after showering! Again, use the back of your thumb nail to get out just the right amount. I would refrain from hopping straight into your sheets at night and let the oil dry just a bit before you doze off.

(Hair) I have used Coconut Oil in a few different ways when it comes to my messy locks. On a daily basis I love to use it to tame flyaways, de-frizz, and to keep an eye on split-ends. My favorite technique thus far? Leave-in Overnight Conditioner. Most recently I experimented and applied a relatively sizable amount on my hair before I went to bed, focusing on my ends. Then, I wrapped it up in an old cotton t-shirt and hit the hay. The next morning I woke up and washed it out. I must admit I didn’t see an immediate difference. But a few days later I was surprised by the softness of my hair and how nicely it laid. Bottom line? Go for it!
