What I Wore: The Original V-Collared Mackage Coat!
A great Canadian winter must come with a great Canadian winter coat; I truly believe that it is one of the secrets to maintaining your personal happiness during the country’s longest and coldest season. Now don’t get me wrong, I actually love winter in Canada, but, like any season, you want to feel good about what you’re wearing, and there’s no reason to forego style once the temperature dips below zero.
Montreal-based outerwear label, Mackage, has been largely responsible for changing the look of winter style in Canada, taking it from frumpy and puffy to sexy, modern, and stylish. Perhaps best known as the original creators of the V-collared coat, their signature style has quickly become a staple of Canadian winter style.
So what makes the V-collared Mackage coat so special? I mean, there’s no denying that Mackage designers Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy created something with a particular je ne sais quoi for it to be so often imitated (but never truly duplicated) by other brands. Perhaps it’s that it is extremely warm but still provides a feminine and slimming silhouette. Or that its elongated and exaggerated fur trim is not only luxurious and high quality, but protects the face from wind, cold and snow. How about the fact that it offers fashion just as much as function? Although I love all of its qualities, I’m particularly fond of the double collar, and the ability wear it open with only the inner jacket zipped up if the temperature allows. And while not pictured here, the pockets are super cozy with a fleece lining.
