Many Chinese readers tell me they are afraid to wear yellow because they feel it clashes with the Asian skin tone. First, I seriously don’t think our Asian skin tone is “yellow.” Most of my Asian friends have very pure and good skin tones, so that I think they can pull off every color. To my eyes, they look really nice and healthy when wearing yellow.

However, in my hometown in Southern China, people mostly have tanner/darker skin tones than in the North. Wearing yellow could make you look more tan, but I personally don’t mind to look tan or tanner — but maybe that is because I now live in Southern California, where everyone has a sun-tan, or wants one! In the Chinese culture, they still mostly enjoy pure and white skin, actually, the whiter the better. (Yes, don’t ever think to open a tanning spa in China!)
My advice: if you are not comfortable wearing yellow, then don’t! But I like it, especially in the Spring.

For my Chinese followers, here is one good question, though: in Chinese history, the ancient founder of Chinese civilization, Huangdi, was called the “Yellow Emperor.” Why would the Yellow Emperor choose yellow for his uniform, unless it made him look very good?

不少中国的读者有和我说，不敢穿黄色，因为会显得肤色黑。我本人其实喜欢各种肤色，小麦色也好，古铜色也好，我觉得看上去健康有精神的肤色都是好肤色。我认识的不少亚洲朋友，每次我看到她们穿黄色，都觉得特别“亮”和有精神。

但是我也知道不少朋友的顾虑，不少在中国的南方人肤色要比北方人深，黄色穿不好，确实会让人看上去比较“黑”。中国的唯白唯美观还是与西方不同，我在洛杉矶看到的专门花钱喷染小麦色的店和服务多了去了。还是那句话，健康的肤质才是好皮肤，与颜色无关。

至于给有顾虑的朋友们的建议：如果觉得穿黄色很别扭，很不舒服，那就别穿。穿衣服自己觉得舒服才最重要。

最后还有一个问题没想通：为什么以前的黄帝会选用黄色做为龙袍呢？
