The Bowl Haircut

Think the bowl haircut was just for kids? Then think again. With its return on the ss14 catwalks, the bowl haircut has yet again divided the hair industry and is making heads turn this season. Read on to find out what has us fascinated with the razor cut bob.

Controversial? Yes. Boyish? Of course. Cool? Questionable. As the bowl haircut makes a stylish return this season, we’re torn between whether the bowl haircut should be allowed to make a comeback, at all. However much we love/hate this haircut, there were a few at Fashion Week who welcomed the haircut with open arms and transformed their heavily sequin and decadent collections into futuristic role models for 2014.

Fendi gave a contemporary nod to the bowl haircut by sending its models down the Milan runway in cyber-inspired, messed up bobs, heavy fringes (which can be emulated with the Bobby Glam Clip In Bangs, by the way) and printed, geometric leathers. Even miss Cara Delevingne walked the catwalk for Fendi in one of the hairstylist Guido’s synthetic, shaggy, black wigs and managed to pull off the bowler cut with such coolness, just like everything that gets thrown on her.

Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs also challenged the bowl haircut with a much edgier and rock ‘n’ roll approach.

Taking inspiration from a 90s L.A kid, models’ hair, including Cara Delevigne's, were chopped using scissors and razors to create quick, quirky bobs for his ss14 collection. But it’s not just the designers who are playing around with the hair trend. Miley Cyrus has also flirted with the M.Jacobs inspired haircut (although, the bowl haircut didn’t seem to go down well amongst us critics!), whilst fashion Queen Anna Wintour has long been an advocate for the bowl haircut and round-sculpted bob.

However much we might not like the messed up hairstyle, we have to admit, it has brought a slight edge and uniqueness to this season’s effortless and whimsical hair trends. What’s your opinion on the bowl haircut? Will you be heading for the shaggy chic cut anytime soon?
