A trip to the Slot Canyons

The Antelope Slots near Page, Arizona are mesmerizing and definitely worth a visit. Who knew that rocks water = Beauty Beyond Belief!

There are two sides where you can tour the canyons; one is referred to as the upper side (south) and the other is the lower side (north). On both sides, you cannot explore the canyons on your own, but rather have to sign up for a tour. I toured both and would highly recommend the lower side of antelope canyon.

On the upper canyon tour, your journey starts with a five minute drive to the canyon in the back of a pick up truck. When you get to the canyon there are many more tour trucks and droves of people. With the volume of people trying to make their way through the canyon it was difficult to get a shot of the slots without capturing the top of someones head as well. (They say depending on what time of year you go you might find it less crowded, but I went in November and there were tons of people visiting at that time.)

The lower canyon tours have been labeled difficult and hard to navigate, but really if you can walk up and down a flight of stairs you will be ok. This canyon is not as crowded and lets you enjoy the beauty of the slots without dealing with a crowd of people. It feels less like a cattle call and more like a unique experience. For this tour, you just walk about 100 feet to the canyon entrance and take a flight of stairs down into the canyon. Once inside you will get a peaceful glimpse of the jaw dropping orange and purple hued rock formations.

Just a few minutes away and not to be missed is Horseshoe Bend. It only takes a couple of minutes to walk to from the parking lot and packs a punch with the view. It's hard to get the entire waterway in the picture, so be sure and bring a wide angle lens.
